MANSFIELD, Texas - Tulane swimming & diving made waves in the pool at SMU on Friday morning in the Manfield ISD Natatorium, as the Green Wave recorded four first-place finishes and notched numerous program records, including sophomore Anise Muir and freshman Morgan Tacik's record-setting performances in the one meter dive and 1000 free, respectively. Despite the bright spots, Tulane dropped the dual meet against SMU by a margin of 173-114.Â
Muir recorded a top score of 236.70 in the one meter dive, which ranks fifth best in program history. Tacik won the 1000 free (10:17.71), which ranks sixth in the record book, also finishing third in the 500 free (5:03.35).
Tulane started the morning's first two events strong, as the women recorded a second place finish in the 200 medley relay, as well as first and second place finishes in the 1000 free. Tacik and freshman Olivia Johnson finished first and second (10:26.19), respectively, to set the tone early. Senior Joy Jason and sophomore Lena Hayakawa continued the Green Wave's success in event five, as the women placed first (1:05.20) and third (1:06.14), respectively, in the 100 breast.Â
Tulane, however, trailed SMU 78-52 through seven events and could not mount a comeback, despite Johnson and Hayakawa's first (2:23.16) and second (2:23.80) place finishes in the 200 breast. Their times rank as the fifth and sixth best in program history.Â
Sophomore Paris Zhang placed second in the 100 back (56.75) to earn the sixth best time in Tulane's record book. Zhang also finished second with a time of 53.32 in the 100 free, while sophomore Shelly Zelnick placed third with a time of 53.57 in the same event.
Tulane will next travel to Houston to compete in the Phill Hansel Invite on Nov. 18-20.
