NEW ORLEANS – After earning its longest win on program history just three days before, the Tulane men's basketball team took it to overtime again to make it back-to-back wins, as it knocked off Memphis, 94-87, Saturday afternoon at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse. Sophomore Dylan Osetkowski helped lead the way for the Green Wave with a career-high 23 points, also notching his ninth double-double of the year with 13 rebounds. The Tigers were led by Dedric Lawson's 25 points and 16 boards.
The game saw 14 ties and 17 lead changes throughout the afternoon, as both teams had four players score in double figures.
Redshirt sophomore Cameron Reynolds drained three with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 80. A final attempt by Memphis (14-11, 5-7 American) with two seconds on the clock missed and extra time ensued.
Morgan sunk a pair of free throws to give Tulane (10-16, 3-10 American) the early edge in overtime, but as was the theme the entire afternoon, the opposition had an answer. The two teams traded baskets and leads until there was 47 seconds left in overtime. Redshirt junior Malik Morgan hit one from beyond the arc to give the Green Wave a four-point lead at 91-87, and leave Memphis forced to foul. A pair of free throws from senior Louis Dabney with 27 seconds on the clock sealed the victory and put Tulane up six.
Memphis started the second half on a 9-3 run, forcing Tulane to call a timeout before the first media, regaining the lead at 52-51. The two teams went back-and-forth until the Tigers strung together eight-consecutive points to go up by seven with 12:35 to play. The Green Wave was forced to burn another timeout before the media break.
Tulane kept things close, despite trailing for the remainder of the second half. Memphis extended its lead to six on one more occasion with 5:41 left to play, but the two teams went bucket-for-bucket the rest of the way.
Reynolds finished with 12 points for the Green Wave, while Dabney added 17. Morgan made it back-to-back 20-plus point games with 23 against the Tigers, hitting five threes for the third time this year.
Ricky Tarrant Jr., had a big second half for Memphis, scoring 14 of his 19 in the second period. Tahson Burrell also notched a double-double for the Tigers with 12 points and 11 boards as Memphis out-rebounded Tulane 47-38 in the game.
