A national search for a new head baseball coach will begin immediately
NEW ORLEANS - - Tulane baseball's David Pierce has resigned his post as head coach with the Green Wave program to accept a position the same position at the University of Texas. Tulane will begin a national search for a new head baseball coach immediately.
"We thank David for the commitment to success he brought to Tulane baseball the past two years," Tulane Ben Weiner Director of Athletics Chair Troy Dannen said. "He leaves our program in tremendous position to continue its growth. I've long understood Texas was David's dream job and wish him and his family a great future in Austin."
"The future is now for Tulane baseball. The program is coming off two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Regionals, the 2016 regular season AAC championship and we have over $1 million in planned stadium improvements, including a new playing surface, which is set to commence later this summer. Tulane baseball will attract strong coaching candidates who share our expectations for success not only competitively, but academically and socially as well," Dannen said.
Pierce led the Green Wave from 2014-15, going 76-46 overall with two NCAA Regional appearances and guided Tulane to the 2016 American Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship.
"The city of New Orleans and the Tulane community have been incredible supporters of my family over the past two years," Pierce stated. "I want to especially thank our baseball coaches, support staff and teams for the great memories that we have shared together. My family will always be grateful to Tulane University, and we will cherish the last two years we spent here. I know we are leaving the baseball program in great shape. I am proud of the accomplishments of our players, and I know they will continue to strive for excellence. Roll Wave!"Â
