PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Following a first-place finish at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Cross Country Festival that led Tulane to a second-place team effort, sophomore Emmanuel Rotich has been named American Conference Male Runner of the Week. This is Rotich's second consecutive weekly conference honor in the 2016 season.
"Emmanuel has trained well and put in a lot of hard work over the summer months and during this preseason," director of track and field and cross country Eric Peterson said. "He has improved a lot from last year and I'm happy to see the conference is recognizing his effort two weeks in a row."
At Saturday's meet in Lafreniere Park, Rotich paced the 5k race, finishing in just 14:13.0 and crossing the finish line over seven seconds before the second-place runner, teammate Moses Aloiloi. His top time marks his second week in a row finishing in the top two and helped the Tulane men to a podium finish at the meet, placing second overall.
Last weekend at the season-opening Brooks Memphis Twilight, Rotich came in second place, finishing just one tenth of a second behind the defending SEC champion out of Alabama.
Rotich looks to continue his sophomore year successes at the LSU Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, September 17 in Baton Rouge. The women will run at 8:05 a.m. followed by the men at 9:15 at Highland Road Park.
