NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tulane women's golf posted a solid showing at the 2016 Mason Rudolph Championship at Vanderbilt's Legend Club North Course with an 11th-place showing among the some of the best teams in the nation.
The Green Wave posted a 890 (+26) over the three-day event, just two shots behind Baylor and a top-10 showing in the first tournament of the 2016-17 season.
"We knew we had a young team coming into the the weekend," said head coach Lorne Don. "We started out with, what I would say, was a little nerves on the first day, but managed to hold it together after sort of a shaky start. After that, we had some really great performances."
Tulane was led by sophomore Laura Munoz and redshirt freshman Elise Genoux, who each fired a final round one-under par 71 on Sunday to close out the weekend. Munoz finished tied for 15th with Chattanooga's Cristina Perez and Houston's Leonie Harm with a 218 (+2), while Genoux carded a 220 (+4) to finish 22nd.
"Laura and Elise finished off a great tournament and had really strong performances to open up the season," Don said. "We needed a lttle bit more consistency. We were right there with a lot of good teams. We were just a few shots back of some really good teams in front of us. We know we were close and saw some great things from all five and need to just build on that."
The Green Wave is back in action on Oct. 3-4 at the Windy City Collegiate Classic hosted by Northwestern.
