Sep 2, 2016 | Women's Volleyball
NEW ORLEANS โ The Green Wave opened up their home schedule on Friday night in game one of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Volleyball Classic, picking up their first loss of the Jim Barnes era in a 3-1 decision to UT-Rio Grande Valley. With the loss, Tulane moves to 3-1 on the year with two remaining games to play on the weekend.
QUOTE
"We played hard, but we were just too inconsistent tonight and couldn't keep any momentum on our side. We were inconsistent on the service line and let too many balls go down. UT-Rio Grande Valley really played hard and found a way to win. It stings because we wanted to win our first home match in front of our fans, but we just didn't quite have the game to do it tonight."
--Tulane volleyball head coach Jim Barnes
HOW IT WAS WON
Tulane took the first set in down to the wire, defeating the Vaqueros 27-25 on four kills apiece from sophomore Hannah Shaw and junior Sarah Ray. However, the Green Wave were unable to capitalize on their early success in the sets that followed, falling 25-19 to UT-RGV in their second outing. The Green Wave, plagued by service errors, fell 25-21 in set three and was unable to muster a comeback in the final set of the night, coming up just short of a game-extending victory, 25-23.
