Final Stats vs. Sam Houston
NEW ORLEANS – It was a day of missed opportunities for the Tulane volleyball squad in the final two games of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic. Despite playing head to head with their opponents all day, the Green Wave dropped back-to-back matches to Bethune-Cookman and Sam Houston State to even to 3-3 on the young 2016 season.
QUOTE
"Today was a tough one. We played hard but not very smart, and had too many mistakes this weekend. The good thing is we'll grow from it because there's a lot of things to learn from these matches. This is the second weekend of the season, so we've got to learn quickly."
--Tulane head coach Jim Barnes
HOW IT WAS WON
The Green Wave opened up the day with a disappointing five-set loss to Bethune-Cookman (1-5). After dropping the first set to the Wildcats 22-25, Tulane fought hard to take a 2-1 lead in the match, coming away with a 32-30 win in set three. The momentum from the high-scoring set didn't carry, however, and the Green Wave fell 18-25 and 10-15 in the final two sets with the Wildcats.
Tulane took to the court again at 7:00 p.m. for the final match of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic, this time to face the Bearkats of Sam Houston State (4-2). Despite notching at least 20 points in all but the final set and bouncing back from a first-set loss, the Green Wave was unable to capture the victory and dropped the match 1-3.
Following the Tulane-Sam Houston match, senior outside hitter Tea Juric was named to the all-tournament team for the second weekend in a row. Juric led the Green Wave offense with 47 kills on throughout the tournament, including a game-high 18 that matched her performance against Southern Miss last weekend.
UP NEXT
Tulane will travel to Clemson, South Carolina next weekend for the team's third of four non-conference tournaments. The Green Wave open the Clemson Classic with a doubleheader against North Dakota and the host Tigers before rounding out the weekend with an evening contest against East Tennessee State.
