JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In its first battle away from home Tulane volleyball (2-1) secured a 3-0 sweep over the Duke Blue Devils (2-1) to open the UNF Invitational Thursday afternoon. The Green Wave used a balanced attack against the Blue Devils with six different players recording multiple kills to earn its second consecutive victory.

With the win, the Wave improved to 2-1 so far this season including 1-0 in neutral site contests. The victory also marked the program's first win over Duke in the first ever meeting between the two teams.

The duo of Chloe List and Lauryn Mack paced the balanced offensive attack for Tulane on Thursday. List led the team with 13 kills while Mack added 10 kills to go with eight digs. Following the leading pair for the Wave were Avery Burks with seven kills and six digs and Riley Tucker with six kills and two total blocks.

Sophomore Charlee Solomon set up the offense for the Green Wave as she registered 37 assists while also tying for the team lead in digs with Dayla Ortiz with nine apiece. Meanwhile, at the service line freshman Kailey Leonard made an impact with a team-high three service aces.

After surrendering the first point of the day in the opening set, Tulane bounced back on the attack with four-straight points to take the early control. Duke briefly back to a tie before the Wave extended its lead to five points at 12-7.
Each time Duke would respond to pull a little closer the Green Wave had an answer to maintain its advantage in the first set. Eventually, the Blue Devils tied the set at 22-22, but after a Tulane timeout the Wave rattled off three straight points to win the set 25-22 on a kill by Mack.

Tulane kept the momentum rolling to begin the second set jumping out to a 7-3 lead. Duke slowly battled back to even the score at 14-14 before the two teams exchanged blows.

Leonard broke an 18-18 with a service ace that sparked a 4-0 run that put the Wave in control of the set. The Blue Devils didn't go down without a fight pulling back within one, but a kill by Solomon secured the set 25-23 to put Tulane up 2-0.

The script flipped to open the third set as this time the Green Wave faced the early deficit trailing 2-6 before calling a timeout. Following the break Tulane chipped away at the Duke lead with 6-2 run to even the score at 8-8.

The third set then became a back-and-forth battle between the Wave and the Blue Devils as the teams traded the lead nine times the remainder of the set. Trailing 20-22 down the stretch the Green Wave rallied with another 6-2 scoring run to close out the set 26-24 and win the match with a clean 3-0 sweep.

Tulane will take on Florida International on day two of the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida. The Green Wave and the Panther will square off at 1 p.m. CT on Friday.
