JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tulane volleyball (3-1) earned its third consecutive victory Friday afternoon defeating Florida International (2-3) 3-2 at the UNF Invitational. The Green Wave flashed skills on offense and defense to outlast the Panthers in the five-set battle on the court.

With the win, the Wave improved to 3-1 so far this season including 2-0 in neutral site contests. The victory also moved Tulane to 6-3 all-time against Florida International and 5-1 in neutral matches against the Panthers.

Offensively, the Green Wave was led by the trio of Chloe List, Lauryn Mack, and Riley Tucker at the net. List paced the team with a career-best 15 kills while hitting .406 on her attacks. Mack followed with a double-double notching 14 kills and 15 digs while Tucker added 11 kills and a career-best nine total blocks. Rounding out the leaders at the net for Tulane were Avery Burks and Maddy McLin with eight kills each.

Charlee Solomon showed off her versatility on the court as she set up the offense with 45 assists while also recording 14 digs, six kills, three total blocks, and two service aces. Meanwhile, Dayla Ortiz anchored the backline of the defense for Tulane as she led the team with a season-high 18 digs.

The Wave and the Panthers went back-and-forth to open the action in the first set of the match. The two teams met with a tie score 11 times in the opening set before FIU scored back-to-back points to take a two-point lead. Tulane battled from behind the remainder of the set eventually falling 22-25.

To begin the second set the Green Wave flipped the momentum by scoring the first three points on its way to building an early 10-4 advantage. List helped Tulane continue to keep the pressure on the remainder of the set tallying five kills as the Wave evened the match with 25-17 set victory.

Tulane remained on the attack rolling into the third set jumping out to a 7-1 lead over the Panthers. FIU slowly battled back to eventually tie the score at 20-20, but the Green Wave was ready with an answer scoring five of the final seven points in the set to win 25-22 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The Green Wave did not have the same fortune in the fourth set as the Panthers claimed the advantage from the start. Facing an eight-point (10-18) deficit Tulane continued to fight to stay in the set eventually pulling within four (20-24), but it ultimately was not enough as the Wave dropped the set 20-25.

A service ace to open the next frame from Solomon set the tone for Tulane in fifth and final set. The Green Wave held the lead throughout the set reaching match point with a 14-10 advantage. FIU tried to battle back on last time, but List closed the door with her 15th kill to deliver the Wave a 15-13 set win and a 3-2 match victory.

Tulane will wrap up competition at the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida, against the tournament host North Florida. The Green Wave and the Ospreys will square off at 12:30 p.m. CT on Saturday.
