Jan 13, 2017 | Women's Track and Field, Track & Field
Schedule of Events
NEW ORLEANS – For the first time this season, the women of Tulane's indoor track & field program will compete on back to back weekends, this time traveling to Birmingham for the team's third consecutive showing at the UAB Vulcan Invite. The meet will take place inside the Birmingham Crossplex Arena, a familiar venue for the Green Wave after opening the season there in December.
Live results will be available here.
THE MEET
Fifteen Tulane women will take the stage in Saturday's meet, with last weekend's top performers in Mary Carson Pitts (pole vault) and Taylor Potts (shot put) leading Tulane's efforts in Birmingham. In addition, junior distance runners Emma Newton and Jennifer LaMori will make their first appearances this season in the 3,000 meter and one mile, respectively.
This year's Vulcan Invite features similar regional competition to Tulane's previous two meets, as the Green Wave will once again face in-state opponents UNO and Northwestern. Tulane will also compete against No. 21 Mississippi and an additional SEC opponent in Mississippi State, as well as a quartet of Conference USA competition in Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Southern Miss and host UAB.
Tulane opens competition inside the Birmingham Crossplex at 9:00 a.m. with the women's weight throw, followed shortly by the women's one mile run. The Green Wave will also send runners to the starting line of the 60m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 3,000m races, as well as the 60m hurdles. In the field, Tulane will also be represented in the pole vault and shot put.
UP NEXT
The Green Wave take next weekend off before heading to their first two-day meet in Bloomington, Indiana. The Indiana University Relays will take place inside the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse January 27-28.
