Women's Swimming & Diving Drops Dual Meet With Denver

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's swimming & diving team came up short in its first dual meet of the weekend, dropping its contest against Denver by a score of 143-62.

Despite the loss, the team posted seven new entries in the Tulane record book.

Earning second-place showings on the evening were the Green Wave 400 medley relay team of Paris Zhang, Lena Hayakawa, Gabby Vieira and Shelly Zelnick, Olivia Johnson in the 1000 free, Zelnick in the 200 back, Courtney Barker in the 50 free, Kate McDonald in the 200 breast, Zelnick in the 100 free, Zhang in the 50 back, McDonald in the 200 IM, Tacik in the 500 free and the quartet of Kaitlin Simpson, Alex Brindisi, Inger-Ane Schefte and Jeni Griffin.
Johnson's time of 10:02.05 in the 1000 free is her new collegiate best and the new second-fastest time in school history in the event. McDonald posted a huge time as well in the 200 breast, setting the new second-best time in school history with a mark of 2:17.05 and just missing out on the school record by half a second.

In the 200 breast as well, Lena Hayakawa's time of 2:23.61 is now the seventh-best time ever at Tulane.

The 400 medley relay team's time of 3:48.81 is now the new 14th-best time in program history.

In the 200 IM, McDonald knocked a tenth of a second off her personal best, swimming the race in 2:06.00 to improve her sixth-best time in team history. Johnson's 2:06.91 is now the 10th-best time in team history.

In the 3-meter springboard, junior Anise Muir took third place with a total of 234.2 points, posting the new 11th-best score in team history.

Tulane is right back in the pool on Saturday, facing FIU in a dual meet at 10 a.m. and Rice in another dual meet at 3 p.m.
