NEW ORLEANS – Tulane women's golf head coach Lorne Don has announced the signing of Isabella Cardenas to a National Letter of Intent to join the Green Wave for the 2018-19 season.
Â
"We are so excited to be adding a player and person of Isabella's caliber to the Green Wave family," said Don. "She brings a wealth of national and international experience, playing both in the United States and around the world representing her home country of Colombia."
Â
Cardenas comes to the Crescent City as a decorated amateur golfer from the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy in Clermont, Fla. She was ranked among the top 20 signees from the Class of 2022 by Golfweek. Cardenas has several top finishes to her credit, including at the Latin America Junior International Golf Championship where she placed first in 2016 and second in 2017. Cardenas captured the 2017 Hurricane Junior Golf Tour Academy Cup title and was a runner-up at two American Junior Golf Championship events – the 2016 Sergio Garcia Foundation Junior Championship and the 2017 AJGA Junior at The Seagate.
Â
At the age of 12, she was the runner-up at the Colombian Open.
The Cali, Colombia, native has represented her country in several tournaments, including the Spirit International and Duke of York Invitational in 2015 and the South American Pre-Junior and Junior Championships in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Â
Off the course, the 2015-16 GGGA Player of the Year was nominated for the National Honor Society in 2015 named to the AJGA Transamerica Scholastic Honor Roll in 2016.
Â
"At Tulane, we have had a great pipeline from Colombia, starting with All-American Maribel Lopez Porras, recently graduated Silvia Garces and current junior Laura Munoz," added Don. "I have no doubt that Isabella will come in and leave her mark on our program, just as these other three have."
