Nov 14, 2017 | Cross Country
NEW ORLEANS -- The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2017 NCAA Division I Cross Country season Tuesday, selecting junior Emmanuel Rotich as South Central Region Athlete of the Year.
The honor comes on the heels of Rotich's win at the South Central Regional Championships, where he repeated as champion by claiming first place in men's 10k with a time of 29:49.1 to qualify for this weekend's NCAA National Championships. Rotich maintained a pace of 4:47 per mile, setting a new personal best and school record in the 10k and breaking the 10k course record at Texas A&M's Watts Cross Country Course in the process.
Rotich has won five consecutive meets, dating back to the Temple Invitational, Sept. 1 in Philadelphia. More recently, Rotich took first place in the men's 8k race at The American Championships, Oct. 28 in Philadelphia, finishing in 24:58.6, after earning first-place finishes at the Pre-National Invitational, Oct. 14 in Louisville, Ky., and the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, Sept. 29 in South Bend, Ind.
Rotich will next compete at the NCAA Championship in Louisville, Ky. this Saturday. The men's race is set to begin at 10:45 a.m.
