NEW ORLEANS - After improving to 5-0 at home in Wednesday's 95-76 win over Southern, the Tulane men's basketball team will put its unblemished neutral site record up against Florida State, one of the seven final undefeated teams in NCAA Division I basketball, on Sunday, Dec. 10 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla.
Tipoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. (CT) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU and the WatchESPN app. Kevin Fitzgerald will handle play-by-play, while Dino Gaudio provides color commentary.
HISTORY LESSON
• Sunday's meeting between the Green Wave and Seminoles will be the 36th in the all-time series, but just the first in 22 years since Tulane earned a 78-77 home victory on Dec. 5, 1995.
• The last neutral site matchup came during the second round of the 1993 NCAA Tournament in Orlando, as FSU claimed a 94-63 win.
LAST TIME OUT
• Jordan Cornish led five players in double-figures with 18 points and a career-high nine assists and Melvin Frazier recorded his third double-double of the season, as Tulane defeated Southern, 95-76, Wednesday afternoon at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
• Cornish shot 6-for-10 from the field, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range, to establish a season high in scoring, while Frazier scored 10 points and led all players with 11 rebounds as well as a pair of blocks. Cameron Reynolds added 16 points and six rebounds, Samir Sehic contributed 15 points on 5-for-6 shooting to go with seven boards in just 19 minutes off the bench as Ray Ona Embo had 10 points and five assists.
• Eddie Reese led Southern (2-6) with 18 points and made four 3-pointers, while Jared Sam notched a double-double comprising 15 points and 10 rebounds.
• Tulane's lead ballooned to as many as 29 with 5:47 remaining before finishing the game shooting 34-for-63 (.540) overall, 10-for-23 (.435) from 3-point range and 17-for-26 (.654) at the free throw line. The Jaguars shot a combined 27-for-71 (.380) from the field, 6-for-16 (.375) beyond the arc and 16-for-19 (.842) at the foul stripe.
SCOUTING THE SEMINOLES
• Picked to finish eighth in the ACC's preseason poll, Florida State is off to its first 8-0 start since the 2003-04 season.
• The Seminoles have already won two games this week, defeating fifth-ranked Florida, 83-66, on Tuesday evening in Gainesville, Fla., before cruising to a 96-71 home win over Loyola Maryland on Thursday night.
• As of Friday, Dec. 8, Florida State is one of just seven remaining undefeated teams in Division I college basketball along with Arizona State (7-0), Duke (11-0), Miami (8-0), Mississippi State (7-0), TCU (9-0) and Villanova (9-0).
THE STORY BEHIND CORNISH'S 'ZERO'Â
• Redshirt junior Jordan Cornish has a specific reason for wearing number '0' which dates back to his initial commitment to Tennessee out of high school.
• Following the Volunteers' head coaching change, several members of Tennessee's 2014 signing class agreed to wear No. 0 at their next schools. Cornish was supposed to get No. 0 at UNLV but another player already had the number. Cornish finally got his wish to don the zero upon his arrival at Tulane.Â
• Florida State's Phil Cofer wears the number, while Larry Austin wore No. 0 at Xavier (before transferring to Vanderbilt) and CJ Turman wore No. 0 when he played at Florida Atlantic.
REYNOLDS SURPASSES 1,000 POINTS
• Redshirt senior Cameron Reynolds scored his 1,000th career point in the 81-65 win over Alcorn State on Nov. 29 to become the 36th player in program history to reach the milestone.
• While his seventh point of the night gave him 1,000, Reynolds poured in a season-high 28 points in the effort and moved from No. 37 to No. 34 on the school's all-time scoring list in that game alone.
TWENTY DIMES MULTIPLE TIMES
• Tulane has combined for at least 20 assists on four occasions this season and is unbeaten in those contests.
• The Green Wave served up 21 helpers in the 102-96 season-opening win over LIU Brooklyn on Nov. 10, 21 in the 80-53 victory over Colorado State on Nov. 17 and 20 more in the 81-65 win against Alcorn State on Nov. 29. They did it once again on Dec. 6 with 20 in the 95-76 home triumph against Southern.
JAMAICAN HISTORY
• Tulane became the first team to win an NCAA Division I college basketball game in Jamaica in an 80-53 victory over Colorado State at the 2017 Jamaica Classic on Nov. 17.
• Melvin Frazier was voted MVP of the tournament, while Cameron Reynolds was chosen to the all-tournament team following Tulane's 2-0 showing in Montego Bay which, was capped by a 63-55 victory against Fordham on Nov. 19.
• Frazier scored 23 points in both games and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds against Fordham, while Reynolds poured in a game-high 25 points against Colorado State.
