BIRMINGHAM – For the third consecutive weekend, Tulane's indoor track & field team hit the road for an out of town meet, this time competing at the Samford Invitational in Birmingham. Friday's competition served as the Green Wave's third trip to the Birmingham Crossplex Arena in the 2017 season, and Tulane athletes claimed seven personal bests on the day as they prepared for the American Athletic Conference Championships at the end of February.
QUOTE
"We've been pushing this team hard, and it's very challenging on the athletes to compete three weekends in a row on the road. Given that, I'm extremely impressed with the improvement from Mikayla Sonneborn in the 3,000 meter and the consistency that Jessica Adamson and Jessica Duckett have shown in their events. I saw very positive things today, both in some measure of significant improvement and just simple consistency, but we still have a lot of work to do in the two weeks before the conference championship."

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE SAMFORD INVITATIONAL
Redshirt senior Mikayla Sonneborn posted Tulane's improvement best of the day, shaving twenty seconds off her previous time in the 3,000 meter to finish in under ten minutes for the first time in her collegiate career. Her fifth-place finish was one of Tulane's four top-five finishes on the day, with Jessica Adamson coming in second in the 800 meter in a time of 2:12.30.
Sophomore Jessica Duckett also maintained her consistency in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing first in her prelims heat on a time of 8.69 and coming in fourth place in the finals.
The Green Wave also benefited from solid performances from some younger runners, with freshman Paige Fatland improving five seconds on her career best in the 800 meter. Sophomore Kyra Ness-Lanckriet also set a personal best in the 400 meter dash, while freshman Parish Kitto jumped a career-high 3.55m (11-7.75) in the pole vault and Mary Catherine Stovall made her collegiate debut in the 3,000 meter.
