Indoor Track & Field Splits for Samford Invitational, Don Kirby Invitational

NEW ORLEANS – For the first time in the 2017 season, Tulane's indoor squad will head to two different destinations in the same weekend, with the bulk of the team returning to Birmingham for the Samford Invitational on Friday, Feb. 10 inside the Birmingham Crossplex Arena. On Saturday, a trio of Tulane pole vaulters will head west to compete in the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque. This weekend's competition will be key for the Green Wave as they look to the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in two weeks.

THE MEETS

Friday's Samford Invitational will be Tulane's third trip to the Birmingham Crossplex in 2017, as the Green Wave will travel one of its largest teams to date to their second to last meet of the regular season. In Birmingham, fourteen Tulane competitors will take the stage in eight different events, with sophomore Jessica Duckett hoping to make continued progress in the 60m hurdles in preparation for the conference meet.

In addition, freshman Mary Catherine Stovall will make her collegiate debut in the 3,000 meter run alongside three of her teammates, while a trio of underclassmen will also compete in the pole vault. This year's Samford Invitational features competition from around the southeast region, including familiar faces in Alabama A&M, UL-Lafayette, Southern Miss and UAB.

Inside New Mexico's Albuquerque Convention Center, assistant coach Doug Fraley will travel three of his top jumpers to compete in the pole vault at the Don Kirby Invitational on Saturday. Alyssa Applebee, Mary Carson Pitts and Rebekah Markel, all who have cleared upwards of 3.80m this season, will face a highly competitive field of jumpers that includes athletes from New Mexico, Arizona, Stanford and UCLA.

Next Friday, the Green Wave will close out the indoor regular season at the LSU Twilight in Baton Rouge.
