Ray Ona Embo Earns Second American Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week Honor

NEW ORLEANS - For the second time this season, Tulane men's basketball's Ray Ona Embo has been named American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, according to an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.
Ona Embo garnered the league's rookie of the week honor for the first time on Dec. 12 after averaging 14 points, 4.5 assists, four rebounds and 1.5 steals in Tulane's back-to-back wins over Southern and Southern Miss.
The Lognes, France native averaged 11.5 points and 4.5 assists while committing just one turnover in 60 minutes of action, leading the Green Wave to a 1-1 conference record last week. He scored 12 points to complement an impressive defensive display in Tulane's upset attempt at 19th-ranked SMU on Wednesday, Feb. 15 and followed up the performance with 11 points and matched a career-high with six assists in Tulane's 94-71 home win over USF on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Ona Embo has scored double-digit points in five of the last six contests, including four-straight games. During the last four, he is averaging 12.5 points per game on 51.4-percent shooting from the field.
Additionally, redshirt junior Cameron Reynolds was chosen to The American's weekly honor roll for the second time this season after averaging 20 points and 7.5 rebounds in two games last week. The Pearland, Texas native scored a game-high 23 points and buried five three-pointers to complement eight rebounds at SMU, before compiling 17 points, seven boards, three assists, two blocks and a pair of steals in the 23-point victory over the Bulls.
Tulane returns to the court Tuesday, Feb. 21 in search of a regular-season conference series split with East Carolina. Opening tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m., at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse and the game will be televised nationally on ESPNU, as well as available on the WatchESPN app.
