LIVE SCORING/VIDEO
NEW ORLEANS – A top-25 showdown awaits No. 22 Tulane men's tennis (7-1) on Friday afternoon when they travel to Starkville to challenge No. 20 Mississippi State (5-3) at 3 p.m. Then the Green Wave will remain in the city for a neutral court showdown on Saturday vs. No. 38 North Carolina State (7-4) at 1 p.m.
WAVE WEEKLY
Last Thursday, Tulane made it two in a row against its in-state rival, knocking off LSU, 4-2. The win marked the Wave's fourth straight victory. Then, on this past Tuesday, the Oracle/ITA tabbed the Wave with a No. 22 national ranking, tying its highest showing from last year's NCAA Tournament squad.
Individually, junior Constantin Schmitz enters the weekend at No. 37, previously besting No. 94 Jordan Daigle to improve to 6-0 this spring. In addition, senior Sebastian Rey earned his first career singles ranking, checking in at No. 110.
Rey also appeared in the doubles rankings alongside partner Chi-Shan Jao at No. 59.
A LOOK AT MISSISSIPPI STATE
Friday marks the 18th ever meeting between the two program, with the Bulldogs holding an 11-6 edge, including a 6-1 mark at home. If the Wave were victorious on Friday, it would mark the first win in Starkville since their first ever meeting back on May, 3, 1969. Last year, the two sides met in New Orleans, where the Bulldogs escaped with a 4-3 win.
Friday also marks Mississippi State's home opener as the Bulldogs are coming off of a stretch of facing three straight top-10 foes, including a win over then No. 7 Northwestern. Nuno Borges leads the way, ranked No. 4 in the country, and has yet to be defeated at the No. 1 position. On the doubles side, Niclas Braun and Trevor Foshey are 5-1 and have just achieved their highest ranking at No. 26.
A LOOK AT NORTH CAROLINA STATE
Tulane leads the all-time series, 3-2, as the two last met back on March 21, 2010, where the Wave earned a 4-0 sweep on a neutral court. The Wolfpack enter the weekend with a 7-4 record and are coming off of a week where they lost 6-1 to No. 16 South Carolina but bounced back with a 6-1 win over VCU. NC State made its debut at No. 38 in the rankings this week after the poll expanded to 50 teams. Lastly, the Wolfpack boast two ranked singles competitors in No. 38 Nick Horton and No. 58 Alexis Galarneau.
