Feb 4, 2017 | Men's Tennis

NEW ORLEANS – The (RV) Tulane men's tennis team (3-1) returns to its home courts at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center this Sunday when they host Santa Clara (4-0) at Noon CT. The contest kicks off a three-match home swing for the Green Wave, as they welcome in Auburn and North Florida next weekend.
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, the Green Wave participated in the ITA Kick-Off in Berkeley, California, where they knocked off Pepperdine 5-2 to advance to the regional final against No. 4 Cal. The Bears won the doubles point and jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Wave rallied with three-set win from Constantin Schmitz on court one and a straight-set victory from Luis Erlenbusch on court five – both over ranked opponents. However, Cal eventually clinched the 4-2 win.
SCOUTING SANTA CLARA
Santa Clara is off to a 4-0 start to its spring season. On Friday, the Broncos defeated LSU in Baton Rouge via a 4-3 final. Robert Seby, Andrew Gu and Connor Garnett hold down the top-three sets in said order and combine for a 10-2 dual record.
SCHMITZ PLAYER OF THE WEEK
This past Wednesday, the American Athletic Conference named Schmitz its player of the week, as the junior picked up his first honor this spring. Schmitz won both of his singles and doubles matches vs Pepperdine before upsetting No. 12 Florian Lakat of California at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
