NEW ORLEANS – The No. 30 Tulane men's tennis team (13-3) remained unblemished at home (8-0) on Thursday afternoon, defeating Dartmouth, 4-1. The Green Wave bounced back with strong singles play after losing the doubles point and falling behind at 1-0.
"It's good to come out with a win against these guys. We knew the level they were going to bring after their match against LSU," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "We knew they were real fighters. We played them twice last year and are led by two great coaches. I keep on telling our guys the importance of the moment, whether it's in doubles or singles."
Constantin Schmitz and Chi-Shan Jao was the lone winning duo for the Wave in doubles, recording a 6-2 victory on court one. It marked their fifth straight win together, as the tandem improved to 5-1.
Next, Tulane immediately retaliated in singles, reclaiming the lead after straight-set wins from No. 18 Schmitz and Jao. With the win, Schmitz now boasts a team best 12-1 record.
Luis Erlenbusch kept the momentum rolling with a 6-4, 6-3, win on court four, while Ewan Moore then finished it off with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, victory on court two.
"We didn't get it done in doubles today because we let them run all over us," Booras added. "That's not who we are. We've seen our doubles do a lot better when we are in control. However, I like how our guys responded in singles and be able to step up to the plate when we were down in some places."
Up next, the Wave will depart for one last road trip of the regular season, competing at South Florida on Thursday, March 23, then Memphis on Sunday, April 2.
