MEMPHIS – The No. 29 Tulane men's tennis team bounced back from a lost doubles point and earned a 4-3 victory at No. 34 Memphis in its final road match of the season in American Athletic Conference action on Sunday afternoon.
"Our guys showed great fight today to come back from being down for a tough conference road win," head coach Mark Booras said. "Tyler (Schick) had a clutch performance to come back from down 3-1 in the third set and tough it out. Now we can look forward to finishing off the regular season at home over the next couple weeks."
The Green Wave (14-4) fell behind with the start of doubles action, dropping a 6-0 decision on court one and suffering a 6-3 defeat on court three, as the Tigers claimed an early 1-0 advantage in the dual match.
Tulane wasted little time drawing even with the start of singles play, as Ewan Moore tied it, 1-1, with a 6-3, 6-2 victory on court three. Next was Chi-Shan Jao, who put the Wave ahead for the first time with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court six.
Memphis (13-6) would respond however, closing out a three-set decision on court five and a straight-set win on court one to reclaim the lead, 3-2.
Despite the deficit, Tulane was in control on the two remaining courts, where Sebastian Ray held on for a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 upset over No. 75 Andrew Watson at the No. 2 spot in the lineup, before Tyler Schick clinched the match with an impressive 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory on court four.
Tulane returns to action for the first of three-straight home matches on Friday, Apr. 7 against Tulsa. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
