NEW ORLEANS – After a record-setting Easter weekend on the West Coast, the men and women of Tulane track & field are back in action in Baton Rouge for the LSU Alumni Gold. Saturday's meet, which will take place at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium on LSU's campus, will feature all four of last weekend's record-breakers as well as 30 additional Tulane competitors as the Green Wave eye the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in three weeks.
ABOUT THE LSU ALUMNI GOLD
Tulane will have an early morning start in Baton Rouge, with track events beginning at 9:00 a.m. for Mckenzie Melius and Mikayla Sonneborn in the women's 3,000m steeplechase, followed by Joshua Cheruyot in the men's event.
The Green Wave will also send a handful of competitors to the starting lines of the women's 1,500m and 400m races at 9:55 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., respectively.
Four Tulane student-athletes are set to compete in the A sections of their respective events after posting top times earlier in the outdoor season. Sonneborn will run her second race of the day in the women's 1,500m, followed by school-record holder Jessica Duckett in the 100m hurdles. At 2:20 p.m., Raymond Kibet, fresh off of a record-shattering performance in California last weekend, will run the men's 400m dash. Jessica Adamson, one of Tulane's lead middle distance runners, will head to the start line of the women's 800m, and Duckett will come back for a second outing in the women's 400m hurdles.
In the field, Tulane will look for another big performance from pole vaulter Alyssa Applebee, who cleared 4.20m at last weekend's Mt. SAC Relays in California.
The Green Wave trio of record-breaking throwers will also make the trip to Baton Rouge, with the women's hammer beginning at noon as Jacqueline Esmay looks to top her career-best mark of 57.48m. Taylor Potts in the shot put and Daliadiz Ortiz in the javelin throw will follow at 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
Moses Aloiloi will suit up for Tulane's final individual event of the day at 3:50 for the men's 5,000m run.
Tulane will wrap up the Saturday meet with its A team of Jessica Adamson, Sarah Cella, Jessica Duckett, Maya Harewood running the 4x400m relay.
UP NEXT
Tulane will go split squad next weekend, as the Green Wave take on both the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas and the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
