NEW ORLEANS – With finals approaching and the outdoor regular season winding down, Tulane will go split squad this weekend, sending student-athletes to both the Penn Relays in Philadelphia and the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas. Five distance runners will make the trip north for a Thursday meet, while the rest of the Green Wave competitors will head to the Lone Star State on Friday and Saturday.
ABOUT THE PENN RELAYS
One of the largest outdoor meets in the nation, Tulane will send five of its top distance runners to the Penn Relays in Philadelphia for the second-to-last meet of the regular season. Mckenzie Melius and Mikayla Sonneborn will kick off competition for the Green Wave at Franklin Field, running the women's 3,000m steeplechase at 7:10 p.m. CT.
Emmanuel Rotich will run at 8:30 in the men's 5,000m, and Tulane's junior duo of Lauren Bartels and Emma Newton will run their second 10,000m races of the year at 9:25 to close out the evening.
ABOUT THE LONGHORN INVITATIONAL
The bulk of the Tulane squad will head to Austin this weekend for the University of Texas' Longhorn Invitational at the Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field.
The Green Wave will open up competition on Friday afternoon in the throwing events, with school record-holder Daliadiz Ortiz first up in the women's javelin at 2:00, followed by fellow record-breaking thrower Jacqueline Esmay in the women's hammer. Tulane will close out day one in Texas with Ethan Rodriguez and Bradley Reber in the men's javelin.
Saturday will see the remainder of the Tulane entries, with Moses Aloiloi kicking off the running events at 11:15 in the men's 3,000m run. From the men, the Green Wave will see repeat performances from Anthony Taylor, Caleb Bertrand, Joshua Cheruyot and Antonius Prader in the throws, pole vault, 3,000m steeplechase and 400m hurdles, respectively.
On the women's side, freshman Sarah Cella will open up in the 1,500m, followed by Jessica Duckett and Brandi Hughes looking to improve on their career-best 100m hurdles times. Later in the day and joined by Dominique Hever, Duckett and Hughes will also run the 400m hurdles.
Freshman Maya Harewood will run a pair of Saturday events as well, heading to the start lines of both the 200m and 400m dashes. Jessica Adamson will close out competition on the track in the women's 800m.
In the field, Tulane will see jumps from five women in the pole vault, including Alyssa Applebee, Mary Carson Pitts and Rebekah Markel, who each cleared bars of four meters of higher last weekend. Closing out one of the final regular season meets of 2017, senior Taylor Potts, who has already broken a school record on two occasions this year, will compete in the women's shot put.

Tulane will close out the regular season next weekend at the Tom Tellez Invitational in Houston before returning to the Lone Star State for the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships May 12-14.
