
Rotich, Taylor Post Big Career Bests at Houston Alumni Invitational

HOUSTON – Tulane's outdoor track & field team trekked to Texas for the second time in three weeks for Saturday's Houston Alumni Invitational, where the Green Wave saw a handful of impressive performances and career-best marks from some of their top performers. On the day, Tulane saw over a dozen top-five performances both on the track and in the field at the University of Houston's Tom Tellez Track.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HOUSTON ALUMNI INVITATIONAL
In his first 3,000m steeplechase of the 2017 season, sophomore Emmanuel Rotich ran a personal best of 8:56.75 for an event title in the race. Redshirt junior Anthony Taylor also came in with a career-high mark, throwing a distance of 15.12m in the shot put for a second-place finish in the event.
On the women's side, pole vaulter Alyssa Applebee cleared a height of 4.00m (13-1.50) for the fourth time in as many meets, claiming her third event title of the season. Tulane also saw top-five pole vault performances from Mary Carson Pitts and Rebekah Markel, who came in third and fourth, respectively, on near identical marks of 3.85m (12-7.50).
Jacqueline Esmay rounded out Tulane's efforts in the field on a mark of 54.37m (178-04) in the women's hammer throw, good enough for a third-place finish and a distance of over 50 meters for the fourth time this year.
On the track, Mikayla Sonneborn ran her second 1,500m race of the season, coming away with another second-place finish on a near personal-best time of 4:41.81, followed by Lauren Bartels in third and Emma Newton in fifth.
In the women's 800m, Jessica Adamson landed a second-place finish for the third time this year, followed by Sarah Cella who came in fourth on a personal best. Jessica Duckett then posted a pair of wind-aided third-place finishes on the afternoon, running quick times in both the 100m and 400m hurdles.

Tulane will head to Torrance, California for a three-day meet at the Mt. Sac Invitational hosted by El Camino College.
