Basketball Old-Timers of America Hall of Fame Inducts Dunleavy

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Tulane Men's Basketball Head Coach Mike Dunleavy, Sr. was inducted into the Basketball Old-Timer's of America Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Brooklyn.

The Basketball Old-Timers hosted its 58th annual hall of fame induction ceremony and dinner on Friday, May 5 at Sirico's Caterers in Dyker Heights, where five new members were enshrined for their basketball accomplishments: Dunleavy, Ed Corbett, Ray Martin, Glen Williams and Don Kent.

"I was very fortunate," Dunleavy said. "I tell stories about once per week about growing up playing basketball in Brooklyn."

Dunleavy played his CYO ball at Little Flower in East Flatbush and starred at Nazareth High School in Brooklyn, before continuing on to a successful collegiate career at the University of South Carolina and more than 30 years in the NBA as a player, head coach and general manager.

Corbett has spent 25 years as an NCAA Division I college basketball referee in the ACC, SEC, Big Ten and Big East conferences. He has worked 20 NCAA Tournaments, including six Final Fours, and is also a member of the CHSAA, Yonkers and Westchester County Halls of Fame.

Martin was an All-American at Mater Christi High School in Astoria, who on to play for renowned coach Digger Phelps at the University of Notre Dame, where he was a member of the team that stopped UCLA's historic 88-game winning streak. Included in his coaching career was an eight-year stint as an assistant under Jim Valvano at NC State where he was a member of the program's 1983 national championship.

Williams starred at St. John's University in the mid-1970's where he never shot below 51 percent from the field and scored 1,727 career points.

Kent has spent over 30 years coaching high school basketball in New York, including time at Christ the King in Middle Village, before becoming entrenched at Msgr. McClancy in East Elmhurst. He is a member of the McClancy, St. Francis Prep, CHSAA and New York State Basketball Halls of Fame.
