NEW ORLEANS – Tulane women's golf incoming freshman Jennifer Rosenberg captured gold competing for the USA at the 20th Maccabiah Games in Israel, taking first by seven strokes in the junior golf competition for females ages 15-18.
Rosenberg shot 73-70-70 (213) and won the competition over Dana Lerner (220) and Katerina Malhova (224), both competing for Israel.
"Jenny has been working hard on her game and it's great to see that pay off, especially representing the United States in an international competiton" said Tulane women's golf head coach Lorne Don. "We are excited for her arrival on campus next month."Â
A decorated golfer from Laurel Hollow, N.Y., Rosenberg won the 2016 and 2017 Nassau Girls Golf Championship and posted her second top-five finish at the 2017 New York State Public High School Athletic Association Girls Golf Championship. At this year's state tournament, she finished with a 145 through 36 holes, which was the lowest score for a Long Island player in the 12-year history of the event. For her efforts during her senior season at Cold Spring Harbor High School, Rosenberg was named the Long Island Girls Golfer of the Year and All-Long Island by Newsday. In addition, she has three American Junior Golf Association top 10 finishes to her credit to go along with a national runner-up finish in the Drive, Chip and Putt Competition at the 2015 Masters and a second-place finish at the 2016 Metropolitan Section PGA Future Series at Bethpage State Park.
The 2017 Maccabiah Games, the third-largest sporting competition in the world behind the Olympics and FIFA World Cup, took place July 4-18 in Israel. A total of 10,000 athletes, a Maccabiah Games record, competed in the 20th Maccabiah Games. The Maccabiah Games are open to Jewish athletes from around the word and to all Israeli citizens regardless of their religion.
