Cross Country Returns to Action, Heads to Notre Dame Invitational

NEW ORLEANS – After a week off, Tulane cross country is back in action, as the men's and women's team travel to South Bend, Ind., for the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. The women start at 12 p.m., running a 5000m race, before the men take off at 12:45 p.m. for a five mile run.
Last time out, the women's team delivered a brilliant performance at the LSU Invitational, Sept. 16, claiming four of the top five finishes in the 5k run. Seniors Emma Newton and Lauren Bartels finished first and second, respectively, while freshman Bridgid Selfors took the fourth spot and redshirt sophomore Mckenzie Melius grabbed fifth.
Newton's performance earned her the American Athletic Conference Female Athlete of the Week honor, as guided Tulane to its second first-place team finish this year, leading the way through the 5k course and notching a time of 17:43.33 to secure the LSU Invitational women's title.
On the men's side, senior Moses Aloiloi followed his first-place winning performance last Saturday at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Festival with a fourth-place finish, leading Tulane to a fourth-place team finish. Junior Joshua Cheruyot grabbed the 12th spot, sophomore Carlos Zervigon finished 18th and junior Pierce Hill finished 30th.
Notably, junior Emmanuel Rotich has not competed since the season-opener at the Temple Invitational, Sept. 5, where he started the year in impressive fashion, winning the men's 8km (4.97 miles) race with a time of 26:00.6. Rotich, who was held out of the previous two meets to rest, returns Friday to run.
