Swimming & Diving Returns to Action Friday With Senior Night vs. Loyola
Jan 18, 2018 | Women's Swimming and Diving
NEW ORLEANS – After more than two months without a competitive meet, the Green Wave swimming & diving team will be back in action on Friday for Senior Night at the Reily Center Natatorium.
Â
Tulane will face Freret Street neighbor Loyola-New Orleans in a dual meet and honor its four seniors beforehand. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m. with Senior Night ceremonies immediately preceding the first event.
Â
Tulane's four seniors – Alex Brindisi, Alex Lakota, Emma Lincoln and Kaitlin Simpson – have contributed a tremendous amount to Tulane during their four-year careers.
Brindisi is fifth in Tulane history in the 100 fly and ninth in the 200 fly. She finished ninth and 14th in those events at the American Athletic Conference Championship in 2017 and was a member of the AAC All-Academic Team in each of her first three years as a Green Wave swimmer.
Â
Lakota has the sixth-fastest 500 free time in Tulane history and is also the swimmer of the sixth-best 200 IM and ninth-best 400 IM ever at Tulane. She is also a member of the fourth- and 11th-best 400 free relays in team history and the 10th-best 800 free relay.
Â
Lincoln holds the Tulane record in the 200 free with a time of 1:48.03, a race she swam for third place at the AAC Championship last year. She also has the fourth-best 100 free, the school's seventh-fastest 100 fly and the 10th-best 50 free in team history. With teammates, Lincoln is a part of the school-record holding 400 free relay, 800 free relay and 400 medley relay teams.
Â
Simpson is the Tulane school record holder in the 100 fly with a time of 54.10 seconds, an NCAA B-time she recorded at the AAC Championship in 2016 for a silver-medal finish. Simpson is also eighth all-time in school history in the 50 free and is part of the school-record holding teams in the 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay.
Â
Friday will be Tulane's first meet since November 16-18 when it competed in the Phill Hansel Invitational in Houston. At that meet, the Green Wave came in third place, a huge improvement on last season's finish at the same meet. Tulane had multiple school records and top-eight finishes throughout the meet, scoring 971.5 points over the three-day event.
Â
Tulane has also matched up with Loyola once earlier this season, facing off against the Wolfpack at the LSU Tri-Meet to open the season on September 29. In that meet, Tulane defeated Loyola 245-39 in dual scoring.
Â
Following Friday's meet against Loyola, Tulane will have one more regular-season meet next weekend. The team will travel to Houston to take on Rice, LSU and American Athletic Conference foe Houston. The AAC Championships follow on February 14-17.
