Women's Tennis Finishes Play at ITA Southern Regional

OXFORD, Miss. - The Tulane women's tennis team completed its first tournament of the 2018 fall season, wrapping up play at the ITA Southern Regional hosted by Ole Miss on Sunday afternoon.

Ivone Alvaro suffered a tough setback in the first round of the singles main draw on Friday, but responded with three consecutive wins in the consolation draw on Friday and Saturday to reach the semifinals. On Sunday, Alvaro earned a 5-5 win by default over Alabama's Jacqueline Pelletier, before reigning victorious by the same result, 2-2, over UL Monroe's Karolina Snita in the championship to win the consolation draw.

Christina Sisti also suffered a first-round defeat in the singles main draw, but responded with a pair of victories to reach as far as the consolation quarterfinals, before falling to ULM's Maria Alfaro in straight sets.

In the singles 'B' draw, Alex Alegre earned an impressive, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, over top-seeded Kimberley Gintrand from Alabama to advance to the quarterfinals, while Adelaide Lavery collected a singles win in her first collegiate match, 7-6, 5-7, 7-5, against Louisiana-Lafayette's Clara Mantaux to reach the quarterfinals of the same draw.

In doubles, Alvaro and Elena Muller collected a hard-fought 8-7(6) first-round win in the main draw, before taking down Jacksonville State's top duo, 8-3, to reach the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, the Green Wave's journey ended there, as the tournament's top-seeded tandem and the nation's No. 7 duo from LSU escaped with an 8-5 triumph.

Tulane returns to action Oct. 26-27 at the Roberta Allison Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
