Fabrizi, Alvaro Win Doubles Crown at Roberta Allison Classic
Oct 27, 2018 | Women's Tennis
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Ivone Alvaro and Laura Fabrizi teamed up to defeat a pair of Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponents and win their doubles draw, highlighting an impressive final day for the Tulane women's tennis team at the Roberta Allison Classic hosted by the University of Alabama on Saturday afternoon.
Alvaro and Fabrizi took on Mississippi State in the semifinals of the Nancy Harris Draw, as the Green Wave earned two early breaks to pull away and seal a convincing 6-2 victory over the Bulldogs to advance to the championship match. That wasn't all for Alvaro and Fabrizi, as they showed the same early dominance against another SEC duo from Ole Miss, before finishing off an impressive 6-2 victory and win the draw.
In the Mindy Leach Draw, the No. 2 seed of Adelaide Lavery and Alex Alegre earned a walkover consolation semifinal win into the title match against the top seed from Memphis. The Green Wave's duo made their move early in the match and closed out a strong, 6-3 triumph over the Tigers.
That wasn't all for Tulane however, as there was still plenty to accomplish with one final round of singles matches remaining. Fabrizi completed her big day by earning a straight-set win over Indiana's Michelle McKarney in the third-place match of the Ashley Bentley Draw to finish the weekend with a 2-1 individual record.
Alegre also closed out play on a high note, as she won the consolation title of the Pat Morgan Draw with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Alex Kuo from Air Force. Alegre also finished the tournament with a 2-1 mark in singles with both victories coming in straight sets.
Tulane returns to action next weekend, Nov. 2-4, during a trip to Lexington for the Kentucky Invitational.
