NEW ORLEANS – Following a two-week hiatus from competition at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., the Tulane men's tennis team returns to the courts for the 2018 ITA Southern Regional Championships, which will take place Oct. 18-22 at the University of Alabama.
Senior Eric Wagner, junior Dane Esses and sophomore Akos Kotorman will compete in the qualifying singles draw, which begins Thursday at 9 a.m., while senior Tyler Schick, juniors Ewan Moore, Luis Erlenbusch and Tim Ruetzel, and sophomore Hamish Stewart compete in the 32-player main draw set to begin at 1 p.m., on Saturday.
In doubles, the Green Wave will send four duos into the main draw, as each has already received a first-round bye, respectively. Tulane's tandems will be Schick/Stewart, Ruetzel/Wagner, Kotorman/Moore and Erlenbusch/Esses. Second round matches will open serve on Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by the round of 16 shortly thereafter.
At last year's tournament in Baton Rouge, La., Ewan Moore and Constantin Schmitz both reached the semifinals of the singles main draw, while the Green Wave also had three doubles teams advance to the quarterfinals.
Thirteen schools will send individuals and doubles teams into the draws, including Alabama, Auburn, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy, Tulane and UAB.
