Tulane Swimming and Diving Falls to Rice in Session I of Dual-A-Pool-Ooza
Oct 19, 2018 | Women's Swimming and Diving
DENVER – The Tulane University women's swimming and diving team dropped a 132-89 decision to Rice University on Friday in the first day of competition at Dual-A-Pool-Ooza.
Â
The two-day event is being held at the University of Denver's El Pomar Natatorium.
Â
"I think today was a learning experience for our team competing in a higher altitude and it also served as a little bit of a mental challenge," head coach Leah Stancil said. "Today started out a little rocky, but I was pleased with the way the team finished."
Â
Junior Olivia Johnson and sophomore Kate McDonald led the way for Tulane as they continued their strong starts to the 2018-19 campaign. Johnson won the 200 IM (2:05.01) and McDonald captured the 200 breast stroke (2:17.49).
Â
In addition, freshman Sierra Shurts highlighted Session I competition by winning the three-meter dive event.
Â
The Green Wave closed out the day on a high note by capturing the 100 relay (43.67).
Â
"This is great competition for us and it is really going to prepare us well for the end of the year and that's what it is all about," Stancil said.
Â
Tulane returns to action tomorrow where it will face off against Denver and FIU with competition beginning at 10:30 a.m.
