Erlenbusch, Stewart Collect Singles Wins at ITA All-American Championships
Oct 2, 2018 | Men's Tennis
TULSA, Okla. - Tulane men's tennis junior Luis Erlenbusch recorded his first top-100 win of the season and sophomore Hamish Stewart also picked up a victory, as the Green Wave finished day four of the Saint Francis Health ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday.
After a first-round defeat in the qualifying draw on Monday, Erlenbusch got back on the court in the consolation draw against Auburn's 93rd-ranked Tim Dollman. He cruised to a 6-2 first-set win, before finishing off the second, 6-4, to score the upset. The win was Erlenbusch's first over a top-100 opponent since defeating Texas' No. 89 Leo Telles last spring.
Ranked No. 121 nationally, Stewart also began his journey in the consolation draw against San Diego's Nico Borter. He proved to be too much, making quick work of Borter, 6-1, 6-2, to advance.
Junior and 60th-ranked Ewan Moore met Michigan's 90th-ranked Mattias Siimar in the second round of the qualifying draw and got off to a hot start by winning the first frame, 6-0. Unfortunately, Siimar countered with a 6-1 win in the second set, before claiming the third, 7-5, to end Moore's pursuit of a spot in the main draw. Senior and No. 103 Tyler Schick also was unable to advance any further in the draw, falling, 6-3, 6-2, to Loyola Marymount's Lukas Moenter.
