AUSTIN, Texas - Juniors Dane Esses and Tim Ruetzel posted big singles wins, capping the final day of competition at the 2018 Longhorn Invitational hosted by the University of Texas on Sunday morning. The tournament also marks the conclusion of the Tulane men's tennis team's 2018 fall season.
Playing in the consolation singles final of the 'B' draw, Esses cruised to a 6-4, 6-3 win over Tyler Junior College standout Marcus Walters, who reached the final after consecutive upsets over Division I players in previous days.
Lining up in the third place match of the 'B' main draw, Ruetzel also closed the fall with a strong finish, cruising past Texas Tech's Artem Kapshuk in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Tulane returns during the spring season for a home doubleheader against Alcorn State to begin dual match play on Monday, January 21 at the City Park Tennis Center.
