Nov 14, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball head coach Jim Barnes announced on Wednesday a majority of the team's 2019 recruiting class. Lauryn Green, middle blocker of Forney, Texas and Lizzy Stefanov, outside hitter of Silver Lake, Ohio, signed letters of intent and are set to join the Green Wave roster in the fall.
"This 2019 class is a great next step for Tulane volleyball. Each player brings a high level of skill and experience at their positions that will make us instantly more competitive in the gym on a daily basis," associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Brian Yale said. "Collectively, they are a class that has already embraced what this program is building. We know they are excited to get on campus and truly help in any way they can to keep this program moving forward."

Green comes to New Orleans from Forney, Texas, where she was a four-year letterwinner at Bishop Lynch High School and played club for Skyline Juniors Volleyball in Dallas. Awarded All-District 1st Team, All-State 1st and 2nd Team and All-Tournament Team during her sophomore and junior years, Green eventually went on to lead the Friars as captain during her senior year. Green was a dominating offensive force on her club team, tallying the most blocks and recording the highest hitting percentage. Green intends to major in Sports Medicine/Pre-Law at Tulane, with hopes of becoming a child advocate attorney upon graduation.
Yale on Green:
"Lauryn will quickly be a fan favorite due to the way she plays the game, and for her infectious smile. She'll be a true force for us at the net with a big block and an aggressive arm. It was obvious the minute we met Lauryn, she was someone we wanted as a part of this program. We're thankful she chose us back!"

Stefanov comes to Tulane from Silver Lake, Ohio, where she had a successful athletics career as a four-year letterwinner in volleyball and basketball at Stow-Munroe Falls High School while playing club volleyball for NOVA Juniors. Awarded All-League and All-District Honors each year since her freshman year, as well as All-State Honors during her sophomore and junior years, Stefanov led the Bulldogs as Team MVP in 2015, 2016 and 2017 while serving as captain in her junior and senior years. Stefanov intends to major in Political Science at Tulane, with hopes of pursuing a career as an FBI agent/lawyer.
Yale on Stefanov:
"We can't wait to get Lizzy in the gym and have the ability to train her year-round. An accomplished high school basketball player as well, she's been splitting her time between sports. So while Lizzy already plays with a high level of natural skill, we feel there are many aspects to her game yet to be untapped."
The final member of the 2019 signing class is anticipated to be announced soon, and the level of talent the three student-athletes are expected to bring to the Green Wave is something the team is looking forward to.
"Just as important in all of this, is that they are incredible young women with a high level of character," Yale added of the newcomers. "They are perfect compliments to our team on and off the court. We are excited to officially add each of them, and their families, to our Tulane volleyball family."
