
Tulane Swimming and Diving Sits in Second Place at the 2018 Phill Hansel Invitational

HOUSTON – The Tulane University swimming and diving team opened competition on high note on Friday and stands in second place at the 2018 Phill Hansel Invitational.
Junior Olivia Johnson highlighted day one competition, as she set a school record in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 4:48.92. Johnson's time was good enough for fourth place.

The Green Wave also received a top-five performance from senior Michelle Zelnick. Zelnick finished fifth in the 200-yard IM, posting a time of 2:01.11.

Tulane also received strong showings from its 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relay teams, as both units closed with top-five showings.

The Green Wave's 200-yard freestyle relay team, which consisted of freshman JuJu Desforges, Zelnick, senior Paris Zhang and senior Lilly Morgan finished third and clocked a time of 1:32.56.

In addition, Zelnick and Zhang were part of the 400-yard medley relay team, which also included sophomore Kate McDonald and freshman Olivia French, that finished fourth in a time of 3:41.75.
Tulane is one of 11 teams competing in the three-day event. The field includes teams from Air Force, Colorado State, Houston, Incarnate Word, New Mexico, Nevada, North Texas, Northern Colorado, Rice, Vanderbilt and Washington State. The event is being held at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium.Â

Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. on all days. Finals will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Diving preliminaries will begin at 12 p.m. each day and following the conclusion of preliminaries, there will be a consolation final.
