MADISON, Wisc. – Another tremendous cross country season came to an end for Emmanuel Rotich on Saturday afternoon as the senior finished 155th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
In below-freezing temperatures with light snow on the ground at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course, Rotich crossed the finish line with a time of 31:05.31. His time is the new seventh-fastest mark in program history for a 10K race.
Rotich began the 10K race well, running just behind the lead pack at the 2K mark with a time of 5:50.1 at that split while the leaders were at 5:43.3. At the 4.1K mark, he had moved up six places to 72nd place.
Through six kilometers, though, Rotich began to drop back. He was in 89th place at that point and fell to 129th at the 8K mark.
The senior ends his Tulane cross country career with a bounty of awards and honors. A two-time American Athletic Conference champions and South Central Regional champion, Rotich holds the school record in 8K and 10K races. He has three of the 10 fastest 10K times in Tulane history and four of the top 10 8K times, and he qualified for the NCAA Championships for three consecutive years.
The indoor track & field schedule will be release in the coming weeks.
