Women's Tennis Falls at No. 45 Virginia Tech, 6-1
Mar 10, 2018 | Women's Tennis
NORFOLK, Va. - The Tulane women's tennis team dropped a non-conference neutral site match, 6-1, to Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon in a match played on the campus of Old Dominion University.
The Green Wave (7-6) fell behind early when the Hokies (10-2) swept all three doubles matches while only surrendering one game en route to clinching the doubles point and taking a 1-0 advantage into singles play. Ranked 45th nationally, Virginia Tech won the first set on five of six singles courts, and did the same in the second set, to stake its claim on the victory.Â
Freshman Daniela La Fuente was a bright spot for Tulane, holding on for a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0(8) triumph over Katherine Butler on court five to even her dual singles record at 4-4 this spring. Butler entered the match leading the Hokies with a 9-2 mark this spring.
Tulane will play a true road match at No. 39 Old Dominion on Sunday. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
