NEW ORLEANS - The No. 32/24 Tulane men's tennis team collected its fifth straight win and its third in a row against LSU with a 7-0 victory Wednesday afternoon at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center.
"They came out with the right kind of attitude and this is always a big match for us," head coach and director of tennis Mark Booras said. "I was really pleased with the way they starting things in doubles. We worked on some things during the last five to six days and changed up some doubles teams. We really stressed some things that are necessary in order to be successful and the guys did most of those things today, tactically speaking."
Deploying two new doubles tandems, the Green Wave (11-5) applied pressure early and often, as Constantin Schmitz and Ewan Moore cruised to a 6-1 victory from the No. 1 spot in the lineup. Playing together for the first time, Tyler Schick and Hamish Stewart were not far behind, before finishing off their match from the No. 2 position, 6-2, to clinch the first team point of the match.
In singles, Luis Erlenbusch was first off his court after cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 victory on court five. Schick was not far behind, closing out court four, 6-2, 6-0, to give Tulane a commanding 3-0 lead in the overall match.
Ranked 19th nationally, Schmitz clinched the match from his normal slot on court one, 6-3, 6-1, for his fifth straight win and improved to 12-4 this spring. Stewart was next to finish on court three, responding from a lost first set to win the second, 7-5, and take the tiebreaker, 10-7. Moore closed out court two, 6-4, 6-4, before Tim Ruetzel completed the shutout with a 7-6(2), 6-4 triumph on court six.
Tulane will head to Fort Worth, Texas to face 11th-ranked TCU on Sunday, March 25. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
