
Women's Tennis Hosts No. 23 Tulsa, SMU in Conference Action

NEW ORLEANSÂ - After splitting a pair of American Athletic Conference road matches in Memphis last weekend, the Tulane women's tennis team will host a pair of league matches beginning Saturday, March 24 against 23rd-ranked Tulsa, before taking on SMU the following day. Both contests will be played at noon at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center.
Tulsa and SMU will face off Friday afternoon in New Orleans ahead of their respective matchups against the Green Wave.
LAST TIME OUT
Tulane (8-8, 1-1 AAC) defeated East Carolina, 4-3, in dramatic fashion last Saturday after trailing 3-0 early on, but suffered a 5-2 defeat against Memphis the following day. Sophomore Christina Sisti went 2-0 in singles from the No. 6 spot in the lineup, recording a straight set win against ECU, before winning a third set tiebreaker against the Tigers. She currently leads the team with 12 wins, including a 7-5 mark in dual matches this spring.
SCOUTING TULSA
The Golden Hurricane (14-3, 2-0 AAC) have won two straight and nine of its last 10 matches, including an impressive 7-0 victory over No. 27 Wichita State last Saturday. Tulsa possesses two ranked singles players, including senior and No. 75 Ksenia Laskutova and sophomore and No. 109 Martina Okalova. Laskutova owns a 19-6 overall record and a 13-3 mark in dual matches, while Okalova is 18-5 overall and 11-2 this spring.
SCOUTING SMU
The Mustangs (8-7, 0-3 AAC) have won two in a row and three of their last five matches, including a pair of home wins over Troy and Georgia State in their most recent outings. SMU is led by junior Karina Traxler who has played at five of the six positions in the singles lineup while compiling a 16-7 overall record and a 9-5 mark in dual matches.
THE LONG ROAD HOME
Tulane played seven straight matches on the road, which began on Feb. 20 at LSU and ended with a March 18 road matchup at Memphis. The Green Wave played four matches on two separate trips to Tennessee (Feb. 24-25 and March 17-18) and a pair in Norfolk, Va. (March 10-11), despite two matches in Storrs, Conn., (March 3-4) being cancelled.
