Day 2 Results
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Green Wave swimming team had a medal-worthy performance, posted three finishes in the top six and earned six new times in the school record book on the second night of the CSCAA National Invitational on Friday night.
Through two days of competition with one remaining, the Green Wave is in 10th place with 104 points.
"This was another stellar night for the Green Wave women," Coach Katie Robinson said. "We raced well in the morning heats to put ourselves in three A final spots for the evening session. We have a small squad of strong women here, and they are making big noise at this national-level meet. Plus we are having a fun time doing it."
FINALS
Olivia Johnson posted a terrific performance in the 400 IM finals, taking third place in 4:15.63. That time – the new fourth-best overall time in team history – was nearly five full seconds faster than her prelim time. That scored 16 points for Tulane and earned her a bronze medal.
Paris Zhang was excellent in the 100 back, placing fourth to score 15 points for the Green Wave. Zhang swam the 100 back in 54.75 seconds, .03 seconds ahead of her prelim time from Friday morning and recording the ninth-fastest overall time in team history.
Kate McDonald took sixth in another strong evening performance, this one coming in the 100 breast. Her time of 1:02.75 was .13 seconds faster than her morning prelim time and scored 13 points for Tulane.
The Tulane quartet of Paris Zhang, Kate McDonald, Kaitlin Simpson and Inger-Ane Schefte had a great start to the night, taking seventh place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:42.34. That time is now the new seventh-best time in team history and earned the Green Wave 24 points.
"Our relay started us off strong earning a top 8 finish, and Olivia raced tough to earn a spot on the podium tonight," Robinson said. "Both Kate and Paris outswam their morning times and moved to a better rank with their evening performances."
PRELIMS
Olivia Johnson started off the day with a 4:20.49 in the 400 IM, taking fourth in the prelims. That was the new 11th-best overall time in team history, but it was bumped down to 12th-best after Johnson's evening swim.
