
Swimming Geared Up For CSCAA National Invitational

NEW ORLEANS – Five members of the Tulane swimming and diving team will jump back the pool starting Thursday for one final meet this year.

Tulane swimmers Olivia Johnson, Kate McDonald, Inger-Ane Schefte, Kaitlin Simpson and Paris Zhang will be swimming at the CSCAA National Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland with races beginning on Thursday morning.

To qualify for the CSCAA National Invitational, the Green Wave swimmers had to attain an NCAA 'B' standard during the course of the year. Nearly 50 teams from across the nation will be competing at this meet. Live results are available online.

On Thursday, Johnson will swim in the 500 free and McDonald will swim in the 200 IM while Schefte, Simpson and Zhang will take part in the 50 free.

On Friday, Johnson will be swimming the 400 IM, McDonald will swim the 100 breast, Zhang will swim the 100 back and Schefte and Simpson will swim the 100 fly.

On the final day of competition, Johnson and McDonald will take part in the 200 breast with Schefte, Simpson and Zhang swimming the 100 free.

Tulane will also compete in five relays throughout the meet: the 200 free and 400 medley relay on Thursday, the 200 medley and 800 free on Friday and the 400 free on Saturday.

The Green Wave swimmers competing in the CSCAA National Invitational had tremendously successful years. Johnson claimed a silver medal at the AAC Championship in February in the 400 IM with a time of 4:11.98 and also won bronze in the 1650 free in 16:32.87. Zhang – a AAC Swimmer of the Week during the season – was the conference bronze medalist in the 100 back with a time of 54.27, and Simpson won the bronze in the 100 fly in 54.28.

Zhang, McDonald and Simpson were also a part of Tulane's bronze-medal-winning 200 medley relay. Zhang and Simpson won three bronze medals with relay teams at the 2016 AAC Championship as well.

During the 2017-18 season, McDonald set the new second-fastest time in team history in the 100 breast and broke the school record in the 200 breast. She is also now in the top-10 all-time in team history in the 200 IM, 400 IM, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. Schefte was part of Tulane's 200 free relay teams that now rank 16th all-time in team history.

The CIT was first held in 2014 and was also held in 2015 and 2016. This year's event will be the first time the meet is truly a nationwide event and will be Tulane's first time participating.
