Swimming Posts Three Scoring Efforts in First Day of CSCAA National Invite

Day 1 Results
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Green Wave swimming and diving team had three scoring efforts on the first day of the CSCAA National Invitational at Navy on Thursday, picking up five new entries into the school record book in the process and getting two swimmers into the evening finals from the morning prelims.

Through one day of competition, the Green Wave is in 11th place with 36 team points.

"We had a great day out in Annapolis," Coach Katie Robinson said. "To make into finals at this meet is a strong accomplishment, and we had representation in two of our three individual events today. It was also great to be in the top 10 for our 200 free relay."
FINALS
Kate McDonald raced to a strong fifth-place finish in the 200 IM finals, scoring 14 points for Tulane. Her time of 2:01.35 is the new fifth-fastest overall time in Tulane history.

The 200 free relay squad of Paris Zhang, Inger-Ane Schefte, Kate McDonald and Kaitlin Simpson finished in 1:33.75 for ninth place, the new 10th-best time ever at Tulane. That effort scored 18 points for the team.

Olivia Johnson started the night by placing 13th overall in the 500 free finals with a time of 4:53.16, bettering her prelim time by .24 seconds. That's the new eighth-fastest time in team history.

PRELIMS
McDonald posted a blazing 2:01.08 in the 200 IM prelims, securing her a spot in the evening finals with ease. She came in second place in the prelims, and that time became the new fifth-best overall time in team history.

Johnson advanced to the evening consolation finals in the 500 free with a time of 4:53.40. She was 10th in the field of 31, and her time became the new eighth-fastest overall time in team history before her finals time bumped it down to ninth overall in team history..

In the 50 free, Paris Zhang took 23rd place with a time of 23.50 seconds, missing out on the evening finals by seven places.

Action in Annapolis continues on Friday with the 400 IM, 100 breast, 100 back, 100 fly, 200 medley relay and 800 free relay.
