NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane University women's golf team returns to action this Sunday, as it tees off in the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championship in Palm Coast, Fla.
Â
The fifth annual event will span three days and will be held at the par 72, 6,276-yard Hammock Beach Conservatory Course. The tournament champion earns the league's automatic bid to NCAA Regional Competition.
Â
"This tournament is always on our radar as something that we look forward to," head coach Lorne Don said. "We've seen positive moments from all five of our players that are playing this week and now it's time to put that all together in a tournament and see them perform at the level that we know they are capable of."
Â
This year's championship marks the fourth year Tulane has participated at the AAC Championship and the second-consecutive season it has competed at the Hammock Beach Conservatory Course.
Â
"Last year was the first year we were on the conservatory course at Hammock Beach, so four of our players that are playing this year have seen the golf course and are comfortable with it." Don said. "It's a good test, it requires good golf shots and I think at the end of the week, the team that plays the best will win the golf tournament, which as a coach is all that you can ask for."
Â
The Green Wave lineup for this weekend's tournament includes freshman Jennifer Rosenberg at No. 1, junior Laura Munoz at No. 2, sophomore Haydyn Gibson at No. 3, junior Sofia Goicoechea at No. 4 and sophomore Gabrielle Correia at No. 5.
Â
The Green Wave enters this week's championship in the hopes of capturing their first league crown.
Â
"We've got a very strong conference in women's golf," Don said. "The level of play will be very high and that's exciting and that's what you want to be a part of. You want to go to a conference championship where you have to play at a high level to win and that's something that we are looking forward to."
All three days of the championship can be followed via Golfstat, while the final round of the championship will feature coverage on the American Digital Network beginning at 11 a.m. CT. Live stats can be found by clicking here.
