
Women's Tennis Meets ECU in First Round of AAC Championships

NEW ORLEANS - Riding a four-match winning streak to close the regular season, ninth-seeded Tulane will face eighth-seeded East Carolina in the first round of the 2018 American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championships on Wednesday, April 18 in Dallas, Texas. First serve is scheduled for noon.
The winner of Wednesday's match advances to Thursday's quarterfinals to take on top-seeded UCF at noon. All matches will be played on SMU's campus.
LAST TIME OUT
Tulane (12-10) picked up its fourth straight win in seven days in a 4-1 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday afternoon in a neutral site match at the UNO Tennis Center. The Green Wave won for the first time this season in a match they dropped the doubles point. Elena Muller, Daniela La Fuente, Sade Atkinson and Christina collected straight-set singles wins to clinch the overall match.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
Entering its fourth postseason as a member of The American, Tulane owns a 2-3 all-time record in the conference tournament, including a 2-0 mark in first round matchups. Despite receiving a first round bye last season, the Green Wave dropped a 4-1 decision to USF in the quarterfinals.
SCOUTING EAST CAROLINA
The Pirates (17-8) enter Wednesday's contest undefeated in April and winners of five consecutive matches. ECU owns a 5-1 record in matches played at neutral sites this season, with the only setback coming against the Green Wave in Memphis.
Celia Ruiz leads East Carolina with a No. 75 national singles ranking, owning a 14-3 overall record at the No. 1 spot in the lineup while winning each of her last seven decisions. Lisa Hofbauer owns a 13-6 overall record, including a 10-6 mark playing in the No. 2 position.

The Green Wave and Pirates met on March 17 in Memphis, as Tulane clinched the doubles point and split the six singles matchups to hold on for a 4-3 triumph.Â

Sophomore Christina Sisti has won seven straight singles matches, a streak that began in the 4-3 win over East Carolina on March 17 in Memphis. Sisti owns a team-leading 17-7 overall record, including a 12-5 mark this spring.
THE LONG ROAD HOME
Tulane played seven straight matches on the road, which began on Feb. 20 at LSU and ended with a March 18 road matchup at Memphis. The Green Wave played four matches on two separate trips to Tennessee (Feb. 24-25 and March 17-18) and a pair in Norfolk, Va. (March 10-11), despite two matches in Storrs, Conn., (March 3-4) being cancelled.
