Jun 21, 2018 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS - Tulane standout Melvin Frazier has been selected 35th overall by the Orlando Magic in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The 20th player in program history to be chosen in the NBA Draft, Frazier becomes the first Green Wave talent to be picked in 21 years when Jerald Honeycutt was taken in the second round in 1997 by the Milwaukee Bucks.
Frazier joins a Magic team that is coached by Steve Clifford and went 25-57 last season to finish 14th in the Eastern Conference.
An Avondale, Louisiana native, Frazier enjoyed a breakout junior campaign in 2017-18 and garnered a handful of honors, as he was voted American Athletic Conference Most Improved Player of the Year, an NABC all-district second team and an all-conference second team choice.
The 6-foot-6 guard led The American in steals (65), ranked second in field goal percentage (.556), fourth in scoring (15.9), fifth in minutes per game (34.4) and 12th in rebounding (5.6). His 65 steals were the fifth most in a single season in program history and the most by a Tulane player in 21 years.
