Fall Schedule
NEW ORLEANS – Fans excited to check out Tulane's newest varsity sport will be happy to learn that the Green Wave's fall schedule was announced on Tuesday and features three home regattas in September and October.
Tulane will have its first varsity home regatta on September 22, hosting the Sugar Bowl Regatta on Lake Ponchartrain. Tulane will then host the Baldwin Wood Regatta on October 6 and the Tulane Women's Regatta on October 27.
"Being able to compete at home obviously provides us advantages," said head coach Charles Higgins. "Being in our home boats, our home water and conditions that we'll be familiar with gives us extra confidence particularly with some tough teams coming in to sail against."
Besides the team's three home competitions, Tulane will sail in nine other events from September to November.
The first varsity season for the Green Wave begins on September 15-16 in Galveston, Texas. There, Tulane will take part in the SEISA Singlehanded Championship as well as a regatta against the host Texas A&M Galveston squad as well as other SEISA teams.
Following the Sugar Bowl Regatta, Tulane returns to the road to compete in the prestigious Danmark Trophy regatta in New London, Connecticut, hosted by the United States Coast Guard Academy.
While some of the team will be staying home in New Orleans for the Baldwin Wood Regatta on October 6, other members will go back to New London, Connecticut, for the Stu Nelson Regatta on October 6-7 hosted by Connecticut College.
The following weekend, the team will travel to Hanover, New Hampshire, for Dartmouth's Captain Hurst Bowl.
"We're pretty excited that we're going to be traveling to some new places that the team hasn't been to before and sailing against the best competition in the country quite often during the fall," Higgins said. "Being able to compete against the top competition every week is what helps us get better for the end of the season when we need to be able to compete at the national championships."
One final trip to New England is in store for Tulane on October 20-21 when it will take part in the Yale Women's Regatta also in New London.
At a site still to be determined, some of Tulane's team will compete in the SEISA Match Race Championship on October 27-28 while also hosting the Tulane Women's Regatta on Lake Ponchartrain.
The fall schedule ends in November with the ICSA Singles on November 2-4 and the ICSA Match Race on November 16-18. The Singles regatta will be in Holland, Michigan, while the ICSA Match Race will be held in Balboa, California.
