Volleyball to Face In-State Opponent Southeastern Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS – Coming off of a 2-1 weekend and a Rutgers Invitational Tournament win, Tulane volleyball posts an 8-3 record on the season heading into the final week of preseason play. The Green Wave prepare to face in-state opponent Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday at 7 p.m. on the road in Hammond, Louisiana.
"Going to play against Southeastern Louisiana is another great opportunity to keep building our team," head coach Jim Barnes said. "We'll just get to keep working on the things that will prepare us for conference play, which is right around the corner."
Sophomore middle hitter Markenzie Benoit leads the American Athletic Conference in blocks following her performance this weekend, with 49 total and 1.58 per set, while senior middle hitter Dayna Kern checks in at third in the conference with 29 and 1.21 per set. Junior libero Kaylie McHugh adds a team high 21 serving aces and 162 digs, ranking second and sixth in the AAC, respectively. Sophomore outside hitter Lexie Douglas remains the team leader in kills with 92, with freshman setter Taylor Henigsman tallying 230 assists in eleven matches this season.Â
Southeastern Louisiana is 1-8 so far this season, defeating Southern University for the team's solo win in it's first preseason tournament. Senior defensive specialist Lexie Torres leads the team in digs with 94, ranking 13th in the Southland Conference. Junior right side hitter Elyssa Purcell adds 61 kills to lead the Lions in their 290 total so far in 2018.
Following Tuesday night's match, the Green Wave will return to Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse to take on Little Rock, Villanova and Clemson in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Tournament on Sept. 14 and 15.
