NEW ORLEANSÂ - The Tulane University women's golf team will look to defend its 2017 University of South Alabama Intercollegiate title, as it opens the 2018-19 schedule on Saturday in Mobile, Alabama. Tulane tees off at 8 a.m. (CT).
Â
The Green Wave's trip to Alabama will span three days and will be held at the par 72, 6,002-yard RTJ Magnolia Grove – Crossing Course.Â
Â
Tulane captured the team title a year ago after it carded a three-round total of 857 to win the event by 10 strokes. Gabrielle Correia and Jennifer Rosenberg led the way for the Green Wave a year ago as they tied for seventh.
Â
The Green Wave will matchup against a talented field that includes: UAB, Alabama State, Arkansas State, California Baptist, Georgia State, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Little Rock, ULM, McNeese State, South Alabama, USF, Southern Miss, Stetson, UTA and Western Kentucky.
 Â
The Green Wave are led by head coach Lorne Don, who begins his sixth season at Tulane.
Â
Throughout the offseason and into the preseason, Don has been pleased with the team's progression and has high expectations for this year's unit, which features a strong balance of youth and experience.
Â
"I know the team is very excited to get back to the golf course," Don said. "Heading into the tournament, we really have been playing exceptionally well."
The lineup for the Green Wave this weekend includes freshman Isabella Cardenas at No. 1, sophomore Jennifer Rosenberg at No. 2, junior Haydyn Gibson at No. 3, junior Gabrielle Correia at No. 4 and senior Laura Munoz at No. 5. In addition, seniors Sofia Goicoechea and Abbie Cantwell will compete as individuals.
Â
"I think there is a little bit of urgency among our team, but it has more to do with the goals our team has set," Don said. "I am very encouraged by what their goals are, and they line up with the goals I have for our program. We expect to be at a high-level and compete all over the country. We need to focus on playing well this week and go on from there.
Â
"This course has some really good holes," Don said. "There are a lot of short par fives that we can take advantage of and it's just a matter of giving ourselves opportunities and executing them during the tournament."
