Green Wave Women’s Golf Opens Play at USA Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Alabama – The Tulane University women's golf team opened its 2018-19 season Saturday at the University of South Alabama Intercollegiate. Following one round of play, the Green Wave sit in a fourth-place tie with South Alabama after shooting a team total of 289.

The three-day event is being held at the par 72, 6,002-yard RTJ Magnolia Grove – Crossing Course.
Â
Sophomore Jennifer Rosenberg and senior Laura Munoz paced the Green Wave as they carded rounds of one-under-par, 71. Both Rosenberg and Munoz are currently tied for 13th, heading into round two competition.

"We went in with a good game plan for the golf course and I feel like we executed that for the most part and gave ourselves a lot of birdie opportunities, which is what you want to do on that course," head coach Lorne Don said. "We're excited to get back out there and tee it up tomorrow."

Junior Gabrielle Correia was the next Tulane finisher on the leaderboard thanks to an opening round score of one-over-par, 73. Correia is currently tied for 29th.

Rounding out the Tulane lineup was freshman Isabella Cardenas and junior Haydyn Gibson, as they finished round one tied for 34th and tied for 47th, respectively. Â

"I think our girls all feel really good," Don said. "All of them played really well. We know we made some mistakes out there today, but they are all things that can be corrected."

Senior Sofia Goicoechea also turned in a strong round for the Green Wave, as she competes as an individual. Goicoechea tallied carded an even-par round of 72 and is tied for 20th.

California Baptist leads all teams with an opening round score of 282. Stetson's Hanna Kiefer leads all individuals with a score of four-under-par, 68.
